Ice Flyers Player Development

Over the course of its 12 year history, the SPHL has established itself as great environment for player development with nearly 300 alumni moving up to the ECHL or other AA level leagues such as the now defunct Central Hockey League and International Hockey League. Last season, the league saw its first alumnus to reach the NHL as goalie Scott Darling played for the Chicago Blackhawks and went on to become a Stanley Cup Champion.

Season after season, the Ice Flyers continue to lead the SPHL in the number of players promoted to the next level. The Ice Flyers pride themselves on being and are very well known throughout the ECHL and other levels for developing great pro players on and off the ice so that they are ready to compete. They have an extensive network with connections and contacts throughout the ECHL, AHL, NHL and the European leagues that they work with on a daily basis. When hockey players become Ice Flyers, they play for a team that is successful on and off the ice and that has one of the highest attendance in the league year after year, all while living on the beach in Florida.

Since beginning play in 2009-10, the Pensacola Ice Flyers have had 69 alumni earn call-ups or move on to teams in the ECHL, CHL, and IHL as well as European professional leagues.
