Greg Harris

The 2018-19 season marks the 8th season that Greg Harris has owned the Pensacola Ice Flyers. He joined the ownership group as a minority partner back in June 2011, taking over majority control a season later. He made the move from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to the gulf coast prior to the beginning of the 2011-12 regular season.

Growing up in small town Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada, Greg started playing hockey at the age of three and has been involved in some facet of the game ever since, playing hockey in the college ranks, coaching and scouting Canadian junior and major junior hockey, conducting hockey schools and power skating clinics, and now ownership.

Throughout his tenure, the Ice Flyers have won the SPHL President’s Cup three times (2013, 2014 and 2016), losing in the finals in 2012 and making semifinal and quarterfinal appearances in the other two seasons. Under his leadership, the team has also set hew heights in attendance, fan experience, market visibility and community outreach, which he gives credit to his entire organization, the fans of Ice Flyer Nation, and the corporate and media partners of the team.

Greg looks to continue and expand the success of the team and is committed to the longevity of the Ice Flyers in Pensacola.

Rod Aldoff
Head Coach

Rod Aldoff coached the Ice Flyers during the 2013-16 seasons as well as part of the 2016-17 season when he took over for Kevin Hasselberg, leading the team to win two SPHL championships and one regular season championship. Over his time with the organization, Aldoff became the winningest coach in Ice Flyers history, totaling 113 regular season wins. He was named SPHL Coach of the Year for the 2013-14 season. He spent the last season and part of the previous season as a scout for the Edmonton Oilers Organization.

Jeremy Gates

Jeremy Gates is no stranger to the game or the Ice Flyers. He spent time in Pensacola on and off for five seasons and he is one of three players to have won all three championships with the Ice Flyers. Gates was a premier defenseman playing in 95 SPHL regular season games where he totaled 60 points and 148 penalty minutes. He also added 15 points in the playoffs in 27 games for Pensacola. During his pro career, he also spent time up in the ECHL and CHL on callups where he played for the Fort Wayne Komets, Rapid City Rush, Cincinnati Cyclones and Bloomington Blaze.

Joel Verke
VP, Corporate Fulfillment and Game Ops

Growing up in Rochester, and later, Saint Paul MN, Joel has been around hockey pretty much his entire life. Like most kids in Minnesota, he played hockey through his high school years, but no further than that. After college, Joel made a career as a broadcaster and programmer in music radio, and spent 17 years on the air in small and medium markets in Minnesota and South Dakota.

In 2011 he became the PA Announcer for the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL, and in 2016 became their director of Corporate Partnerships and Game Operations. Joel’s wife is from Baton Rouge Louisiana, and for many years they had thought about relocating to be closer to her family, and a return to much, much warmer weather!  Driving from a visit to her family in Baton Rouge to Destin in April of 2018, they drove past the Pensacola Bay Center, looked it up, and found out that a professional hockey team called it home. Months later, Joel made a call to Ice Flyers owner Greg Harris, and the rest is, well, history.

Joel and his wife have two small children, and are enjoying all that the Pensacola area has to offer, especially the beautiful and seemingly endless stretches of beach.  Aside from hockey, Joel does commercial voiceovers and as a hobby likes to collect classic vinyl albums and 45’s.  He looks forward to meeting all of the passionate Ice Flyer fans, and excited to work for a hockey team…in Florida.
