Pensacola, with Extra Motivation, Defeats Huntsville 6-2

The Ice Flyers defeated the Huntsville Havoc 6-2. The Huntsville Havoc and Pensacola Ice Flyers squared off in a marquee matchup at PharmacyFirst Ice Arena in Huntsville, Alabama.The Havoc came into the game leading the league in goals per game and second in goals against average. Pensacola though, came into the game with added motivation. The Ice Flyers played their first game without Coach Jeff Bes behind the bench due to a SPHL Rules Violation.

The Havoc outshot the Ice Flyers 20-10 after the first period. However, the Ice Flyers outscored Huntsville 3-1 in the first period. Jessyko Bernard started the scoring with his third goal of the season at 10:05 of the first period. Bernard’s goal was assisted by Garrett Milan. The Havoc would tie the game 90 seconds later on a goal by Sy Nutkevitch that was assisted by Danny Smith and Andy Willigar. Pensacola would regain the lead on a Powerplay goal by Trevor Hertz at 2:58 of the first period. That goal was assisted by Anthony Calabrese and Brian Morgan. Trevor Hertz would add another goal with a minute left in the period. Hertz’s second goal of the game and third of the season was assisted by Robert Lepine and Tommy Fiorentino.

Huntsville cut the lead early into the second period on a powerplay goal that was scored by Andy Willigar goal and assisted by Sy Nutkevitch and Stuart Stefan. That was the closest the game got for the Havoc. Robert Lepine scored his third goal of the season at 7:41 of the second period to give the Ice Flyers a 4-2 lead. Garrett Milan and Mark Esshaki assisted on the goal. Garrett Milan would add a goal of his own at 6:41 of the second period. Robert Lepine and Kyle Haines assisted on that goal. Phil Bushbacher put the game out of reach for the Havoc at 19:42 of the third period with his second goal of the year. Stephen Hrehoriak and Nathan Bruyere assisted.



The Ice Flyers were outshot 38-36 by the Havoc.


Robert Lepine and Stephen Hrehoriak have at least a point in every game played so far.


Jessyko Bernard extended his point streak to four games.


Tommy Fiorentino scored his first point on an assist on Trevor Hertz’s second goal of the game.


Greg Dodds won his third straight game for the Ice Flyers. He stopped 36 of 38 shots.


The Ice Flyers return to the Pensacola Bay Center to play the Fayetteville Marksmen at 7:05 PM on Friday and Saturday Night. Gates open at 5:30 PM at the Pensacola Bay Center. Tickets are still available.
