Pensacola, Fla. (July 30, 2020) – The Ice Flyers have announced the signing of leader scorer, Garrett Milan, for the 2020-21 season.
“I am very excited to sign back with Pensacola,” Milan stated. “The fans down to the ownership and team staff have made it a very enjoyable place to be.”
“Garrett is a player that you can count on to be elite every day,” head coach Rod Aldoff commented. “He is a person that loves the game of hockey and shows it with his intensity and work ethic. He’s been a great player for us consistently and it’s great having him back.”
The Whistler, B.C. native is entering his six professional season and fourth with the Ice Flyers. In 110 SPHL games, Milan has scored 40 goals, added 87 assists for 127 points. He also has a plus-46 rating. Prior to turning pro in 2015-16, he played four years at NCAA Division I St. Cloud State University.
“Having last year end the way it did with the COVID-19 pandemic, it was a disappointment but everyone that is coming back is eager and hungry to finish off what we started last season,” Milan added. “It has been tough times with the coronavirus going on but knowing we will be back and playing in front of our great fans provides hope and excitement for all of us training in our own ways back home.”
Milan tallied the most assists in the SPHL his first season with Pensacola when he put up 51. He has also been named to the SPHL 2nd All-Star Team in 2017-18 and 2019-20. In the last few seasons, he has earned call ups to the ECHL with the Atlanta Gladiators, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits and the Rapid City Rush.
“I expect him to come in this year and be a leader that he has in the past and continue to be a threat every time he touches the ice,” Aldoff said. “He’s a fan favorite and I know our fans will be excited to see him back in an Ice Flyers jersey”
Milan finished off by saying, “I am excited to get back to Pensacola and start the season as well as getting back to normal and building a championship team.”
