Ice Flyers Win 4-1 on a Teddy Bear Toss and Mascots Night

PENSACOLA, Fla. (December 1, 2017) – The Ice Flyers defeated Macon Mayhem 4-1 on Teddy Bear Toss and Mascots Night in the Hangar at the Pensacola Bay Center Friday Night. Anthony Calabrese brought the Teddy Bears onto the ice with an unassisted goal scored with 16 seconds left in the first period. The total number of bears thrown by the Ice Flyers faithful was 770+ bears that will be donated to Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart. Jessyko Bernard, Trever Hertz, and Matt Johnson added goals for the Ice Flyers. Caleb Cameron scored an unassisted goal for Macon in the third period.
The first period intermission came early but it did not cool Pensacola’s hot start. Jessyko Bernard scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season at 3:52 of the second period on a goal that was assisted by Robert Lepine and Mark Esshaki. Trever Hertz added a late third period powerplay goal that was assisted by Kyle Haines and Anthony Calabrese. Matt Johnson scored seconds after Pensacola had killed a five on three Macon powerplay. Johnson’s third goal of the season was assisted by Tim Boyle and Eli Lichtenwald. The Ice Flyers outshot Macon 52-21 including 19-3 after the first period. Gordon Defiel won his Ice Flyers debut stopping 21 of 22 Mayhem shots.
Gordon Defiel becomes the fourth Ice Flyers goalie to win a game this season. He joins Sean Bonar, Greg Dodds and Kent Patterson.
