Ice Flyers Survive Onslaught; Win 5-4

PENSACOLA, Fla. (November 11, 2017) – The Pensacola Ice Flyers survived a four goal Fayetteville onslaught in the second period to win 5-4 at the once again packed Hangar on Veterans Appreciation Night. Pensacola led after the first period 2-0.

The Ice Flyers received goals from Eli Lichtenwald, Phil Bushbacher, Stephen Hrehoriak, Matt Johnson and Brian Morgan. Eli Lichtenwald scored his first of the season at 3:16 of the first period on a goal that was assisted by Trever Hertz. Phil Bushbacher scored his third goal of the season at 17:58 of the first period on a goal that was assisted by Garrett Milan. Stephen Hrehoriak scored his team leading fifth goal of the season at 3:15 of the second period on a goal that was assisted by Matt Johnson. Matt Johnson scored his second of the season on a goal that was assisted by Anthony Calabrese and Nathan Bruyere at 5:30 of the second period. Brian Morgan scored the game winner at 6:53 of the third period on a powerplay that was assisted by Stephen Hrehoriak and Matt Johnson. Sean Bonar stopped 26 of 30 shots for his fourth victory.

Fayetteville was able to come back to tie the game 4-4 during the second period . Fayetteville was able to score four goals on sixteen shots during the second period. The Marksmen received two goals from Jake Hauswirth including a shorthanded goal and a powerplay goal, and goals from Max Cook (powerplay) and John Schiavo as well. Hauswirth scored his third and fourth goals of the season at 5:03 and 11:32 of the second period. Max Cook scored his second goal of the season at 1:01 of the second period. John Schiavo scored his fifth goal of the season for Fayetteville at 3:01.

The Ice Flyers travel to Macon to play the Mayhem at 7:00 PM at the Macon Centreplex. The Ice Flyers return home on Saturday November 18th at 7:05 on Wiener Dog Race Night. Stephen Hrehoriak extended his points streak to seven games. He leads the team with five goals and six assists.

 

Matt Johnson now has two goals and two assists in two games after joining the team on Friday.

 

The team won its third game in three days.
