PENSACOLA, Fla. (January 6, 2018) – The Ice Flyers defeated the Rail Yard Dawgs 4-3 in Roanoke Saturday night. Ken Neil, Josh Cousineau, Stephen Hrehoriak and Garrett Milan scored for Pensacola. Steve Mele scored two goals for Roanoke. Matt Beer added the other Rail Yard Dawg goal. Alex Sakellaropoulos won in his Pensacola debut.
Ken Neil put the Ice Flyers on the board first with his second goal of the season 24 seconds into the game. Josh Cousineau scored with a wrap around goal late in the first period, putting Pensacola up 2-0. The goal was Cousineau’s fifth of the season. The Ice Flyers took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Stephen Hrehoriak put the Ice Flyers up 3-0 with his tenth of the season early in the second period. Garrett Milan added to the lead with a power play goal, his seventh of the season. Steve Mele put Roanoke on the board with a shorthanded breakaway goal. He added another shorthanded goal at 18:51 in the second period for Roanoke to bring the score to 4-2.
Roanoke tried to rally back in the third period with a goal from Matt Beer at 14:27. However, Sakellaropoulos blocked their remaining shots, securing the win, his first with the Ice Flyers.
Alex Sakellaropoulos made his Ice Flyers debut. He became the sixth goalie to start for Pensacola this season. He also became the sixth goalie to win a game for the Ice Flyers.
This was the second game of a three game road trip for Pensacola. They will finish their trip by going to Birmingham, Alabama to face the Bulls on January 9 at 7:35PM.
The Ice Flyers next home game will be on Friday, January 12, against the Birmingham Bulls. It’s Friends and Family Night at The Hangar.
