Ice Flyers fall 3-2, are eliminated from 2017 playoffs

The Pensacola Ice Flyers could not hold on to an early two-goal lead and allowed three straight Macon Mayhem goals to lose 3-2 on Friday night inside the Macon Coliseum.

The Ice Flyers opened the scoring when Ken Neil tipped in a pass from Aaron Clarke for a power play goal 5:13 into the first period. Jeremy Gates had the other assist on the goal. Pensacola kept their collective foot on the accelerator and cashed in with a shot by Josh Cousineau from the slot to make it 2-0 with 12:05 remaining in the opening period. Macon’s Dennis Sicard cut the Ice Flyers’ lead down to 2-1 with a power play goal with 9:27 left in the first. Macon tied the game with 1:25 remaining in the first on a shot by Stephen Pierog.

The score remained 2-2 for the majority of the second period but Macon’s Ben Robillard gave his team their first lead of the game when he made it 3-2 with 1:46 remaining in the second period.

Matt Zenzola saved 28 of Macon’s 31 shots on goal.
