The Pensacola Ice Flyers (11-12-5) scored three goals in 11:19 of game time to down the Macon Mayhem (18-6-5) by a score of 3-2 inside the Macon Coliseum on Friday Night.
The first period proved to be a tight, scoreless affair with Macon holding the edge in shots on goal at nine to seven. In the second, former Ice Flyers forward Junior Harris made it 1-0 Macon with 11:58 remaining in the middle frame.
The Mayhem doubled their lead when Matt Summers scored 9:40 into the third. Just 1:07 later, the Ice Flyers cut Macon’s lead down to 2-1 when Roger Tagoona scored his third goal of the season. John Celli and Louis Belisle had the assists. Tagoona scored again less than three minutes later to tie the game up for Pensacola. The goal came with 6:46 left in regulation and was assisted by Brad Bourke and Josh Cousineau.
Tied at two after 60 minutes, the two teams headed to overtime. The Ice Flyers weren’t content with just earning one point and defenseman Nathan Bruyere netted his second goal of the season 2:06 into the extra period to secure the 3-2 win.
Matt Zenzola stopped 29 of Macon’s 31 shots in 62:06 of action and improved his record to 7-6-4 on the year.
The Ice Flyers will then return to the Pensacola Bay Center to face the Mayhem for Group Night in the Hangar, presented by Orangetheory Fitness, at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28. The weekend rounds out on Sunday, Jan. 29, with Hero & Princess Night at 4:05 p.m. as the Ice Flyers face the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs for the first time ever.
