PENSACOLA, Fla. (August 25, 2017) – The Pensacola Ice Flyers announced today that rookie forward Martin Gruse has signed for the 2017-18 season.
“Martin is an intelligent hockey player that plays a solid 200-foot game,” Head Coach Jeff Bes stated. “He is a speedy left winger that can contribute offensively every night.”
“The decision to come to Pensacola and wear an Ice Flyers jersey was an easy one,” Gruse commented. “The winning culture, the win-now attitude Coach Bes has instilled already and giving the players every opportunity to develop and advance are what makes this something I could not pass up.”
The Trenton, Mich. native is a product of the Saint Mary’s University program. In 100 college games played, he scored 47 goals and added 61 assists for 108 points and had 137 penalty minutes. He was also named an All-American in 2014-15 as a sophomore, scoring 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points in 27 games.
Prior to his college career, he played three seasons with the Michigan Warriors in the NAHL. He tallied 86 points in 147 games and 129 penalty minutes.
“Martin has a tremendous attitude and work ethic,” said Bes. “He is spoken very highly of by his coaches and peers and I know he will represent everything the Ice Flyers organization stands for extremely well.”
Gruse concluded, “I am excited an honored to be a part of this franchise. To be able to wear the jersey in front of the very passionate Ice Flyers fans that I have heard about and to give back to the Pensacola community is something I am anxiously looking forward to.”
