FireAntz Too Hot, Ice Flyers Fall 4-0
The Pensacola Ice Flyers (8-6-1) fell 4-0 to the Fayetteville FireAntz (10-2-0) on Saturday night.
The FireAntz opened the scoring when Zach Carriveau was able to beat Pensacola goalie Matt Zenzola with 10:39 left in the opening period. About a minute later, David Segal dropped the gloves with the Antz’s Brad Drobot and after some back-and-forth, Segal was able to drop Drobot to the ice.
The FireAntz extended their lead to 3-0 with the help of a goal by Zac Frischmon. Frischmon’s fourth goal of the season chased Zenzola to the bench and he was replaced by John McLean. Segal got into his second fight of the night 7:58 into the second. After 40 minutes, the score stood at 3-0.
The Antz stretched their lead to 4-0 when Josh McQuade scored the only goal that McLean gave up with 4:01 remaining in the game.
Zenzola 13 of the 16 shots he faced and picked up the loss to move to 8-4-1 on the season. McLean stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced. The FireAntz swept the three stars of the game with Derek Elliott being third, McQuade second, and Parker Van Buskirk first for his 41 save shutout performance.
The Ice Flyers will return to action next Friday, Dec. 11, when they take on the Louisiana IceGators inside the Cajundome in Lafayette, La. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and watch parties for the game will be held at New York Nick’s downtown and the 9 Mile Rd. Beef ‘O’ Brady’s location.
