2019-20 Protected List

Pensacola, Fla. (May 13, 2019) – The Pensacola Ice Flyers announced today the team’s 13-player protected list for the 2018-19 season.

Each team is allowed to protect 13 players who were under contract at the end of the 2018-19 season per the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) rules. Players that are protected are unable to be signed by any other SPHL teams, while players who are not protected nor drafted cannot be signed to their previous team until August 1.

The Ice Flyers’ protected players list contains ten forwards and three defensemen. The list includes leading scorers Ryan Marcuz and Tim Moore as well as the leader in assists Jesse Kessler.


Brett D’Andrea – The 5’11” 188-lb. forward originally from Columbus, Mich. played 31 games for the Ice Flyers throughout the 2018-19 season totaling 25 points with nine goals and 16 assists. D’Andrea also spent time with ECHL Toledo from November 12, 2019 – January 29, 2019.

Joseph Drapluk – Joining the Ice Flyers immediately out of his NCAA III tenure at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, the 5’10” 170-lb. Pembroke Pines, Fla. native finished the 2018-19 season with five goals and five assists building up a total of ten points within his ten games played for the Ice Flyers.

Tanner Froese – Froese, a 6’0” 184-lb. forward from Estevan, Sask. played 22 games with the Ice Flyers netting six goals and five assists totaling 11 points. Froese was also loaned to two ECHL teams during the 2018-19 season, the ECHL Atlanta Gladiators from December 13, 2018 – December 21, 2018 and the ECHL Idaho Steelheads from January 1, 2019 – March 16, 2019.

Ryan Marcuz –One of the top two leading scorers and the top shooter for the Ice Flyers during this past season, Marcuz a 6’0” 203-lb. Richmond Hill, Ont. native played 55 games totaling 31 points comprised of 14 goals and 17 assists.

Eddie Matsushima – The 5’11” 185-lb. forward originally from Verona, Wis. joined the Ice Flyers during the 2018-19 season after totaling four years with the NCAA III University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Playing 14 games for the Ice Flyers, Matsushima totaled six goals and seven assists totaling 13 points.

Garrett Milan – Originally hailing from Whistler, B.C., 5’8” 175-lb. Milan played in 17 games for the Ice Flyers this past season where he netted nine goals and 13 assists for a total of 22 points. Milan was also loaned to the ECHL Greenville Swamp Rabbits from December 31, 2018 – February 14, 2019.

Brian Morgan – Brian Morgan, a 6’0” 195-lb. Windham, N.H. native spent the majority of his time in the ECHL during the 2018-19 season playing a total of 14 games before signing his contract with the Ice Flyers on December 1, 2018. Shortly after signing on with the Ice Flyers, Morgan was loaned to the ECHL Greenville Swamp Rabbits on December 6, 2018, returning on March 21, 2019. Morgan totaled six points comprised of three goals and three assists during his eight games with the Ice Flyers this past season.

Tim Moore – Moore, a 6’0” 186-lb. Grosse Pointe Park, Mich. native played 42 games with the Ice Flyers this past season with a 26-point total comprised of 14 goals and 12 assists.

Andrew Schmit – From Grafton, Wis., the 6’0” 179-lb. forward had the most penalty minutes on the team with 80 this season. He totaled eight goals and 13 assists making up 21 points.

Brantley Sherwood – Originally from San Anselmo, Calif., 6’0” 179-lb. forward Sherwood played 31 games with the Ice Flyers this past season totaling five goals and nine assists giving him 14 points before being loaned to the ECHL Norfolk Admirals on February 4, 2019 for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.


Ryan Bittner – Standing at 6’3” 190-lb. Bittner, who is from Crookston, Minn. played two games for the Ice Flyers during the 2018-19 season, signing an amateur tryout contract on April 3, 2019. Before joining the Ice Flyers, Bittner played four years for NCAA III University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Nathan Bruyere – From Eagle Lake, Ont. the 6’4” 254-lb. defensemen played in 46 games for the Ice Flyers this past season finishing with 26 points from 13 goals and 13 assists.

Jesse Kessler – The 5’10” 194-lb. Franklin, Tenn. native defenseman lead in assists with 20 adding into his total of 22 points made up with an additional 2 goals.
