PENSACOLA, Fla. (October 4, 2017) – The Pensacola Ice Flyers have announced today that Head Coach Jeff Bes has re-signed Canadian defenseman Nathan Bruyere for the 2017-18 season.
“After a strong rookie season, we are looking for Nathan to elevate his game to the next level,” Coach Bes said. “He has excellent skating ability and a bomb for a shot.”
The 6’4”, 245-lb. defenseman is a native of Eagle Lake, Ontario, Canada. In his first year playing pro, Bruyere had a breakout season. Signed in December 2016 to the Ice Flyers, he played in 42 games, netting 8 goals and adding 16 assists for a total of 24 points. He led all rookie defensemen in the SPHL in scoring, and was also named to the 2016-17 SPHL All-Rookie Team.
Prior to turning pro, Bruyere totaled 21 points in 41 games during his time at Lakehead University.
“I am truly honored to return to Pensacola for the 2017-18 season,” stated Bruyere. “Pensacola is a great hockey city with very passionate fans, and I’m looking forward to contributing on and off the ice in any way I can to have a successful season and compete for another championship.”
Bes finished by saying, “With Nathan’s signing, it creates further depth to the experienced defense corps we have coming. He has a ton of potential and I am looking forward to continuing Nathan’s development this season into an even better defenseman than he already is.”
